  1. So hilarious and real, Ellen! Tears are in the corner of my eyes!

Your sons remind me of my youngest brother when he was in kindergarten where he was learning French and making hay.

My now eight-year-old grandson has kept a photo of his girlfriend in his Lego box for a couple of years. He wanted to invite her for a playdate but said he’s afraid his siblings will make fun of him. He did invite her to his last birthday party and they played for an hour together in the bouncy castle, giggling uproariously when one landed against the other.

His older brother, now 13, has been shyly sweet on a girl with an androgynous name on his ice hockey team since last year. The coach says he watches the group like a hawk in the coed locker room where, he reports, if anything personal is done or said, it’s typically initiated by a girl.

As for the specifics, the coach isn’t breaking the code and telling a grandmother. Probably a good thing because in this game, team members are usually credited with an assist when a goal is achieved…I don’t want to think about it.

I saw another tall girl, this one with turquoise hair and a nose ring, watching TV with him recently–at that moment anyway, they were observing the “four feet on the floor” rule.

P.S. You have a lot to look forward to. I dated identical twins in high school.

    • Don’t know how I missed this the first time Mary! Thanks for taking the time. Love your story of your grandsons and how cool you dated an identical twin! XO
